Bio
Amáda Márquez Simula has been the Mayor of Columbia Heights, MN since January 2021. As a Latina, she is the first person of color elected to office in the city, and the second Latina mayor in the state. Beyond representation, Amáda is streamlining communication between various communities and government in one of the most culturally diverse cities in Minnesota. She strives for progress, removes antiquated obstacles, and works to update policies for everyone. Amáda is a constant advocate for equality, including renters, people of color, immigrants, young citizens, LGBTQ people, and people with accessibility needs. Passionate about public safety, sustainability, and technology, Mayor Amáda Márquez Simula consistently demonstrates informed, fearless, and creative leadership.
