Amáda Márquez Simula announces plans to run for Columbia Heights Mayor

Release

Columbia Heights, MN – Amáda Márquez Simula, a 25-year volunteer & community leader announced that she will register for the office of Mayor of Columbia Heights on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

“I began volunteering as our neighborhood block captain.” Márquez Simula says, “I fell in love with the city’s diversity and intimacy. As I’ve attended city council meetings over the last 6 years, I’ve seen new, talented staff come on board. I’d like to see Columbia Heights become a city of transparency, a city where everyone has a voice, and a city with 21st century solutions. I’m passionate about our community becoming more green, accessible, and I’m ready to work on policies to take care of our residents and businesses alike.”

Amáda currently works as the Columbia Heights Public School Adult Enrichment and Senior Program Manager. She also serves on the District Finance Committee and District Community Education Advisory Council. Additionally, she works for the City of Columbia Heights’ Public Works Department promoting the city’s popular compost program, and she has been a head judge for one of Columbia Heights’ eight voting precincts.

Márquez Simula has been described as a young, energetic, fresh face in the community who truly cares and “gets things done”, thanks largely to her ongoing service projects with HeightsNEXT, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Sister Cities, The Sheridan Story, and the LGBTQIA+ Pride Festival. Growing up in a Hispanic, multi-cultural, working class family uniquely prepared her to lead all members of our diverse city.

The Columbia Heights resident lives in the South Kordiak neighborhood with her husband, Frost. She is an artist, a musician, an avid gardener, and the mother of 4 adult children.
